Update on things

Wow, it seems like forever since I've posted. To tell you the truth, it's been so hot in this apartment since the central a/c went out (something I haven't mentioned) that it's been unbearably too hot to sit in this office and type on the computer. I'm so glad that the weather has cooled off a lot this week.

My dentist appointment went absolutely better than expected. It only cost me $26!!!! Here's my problem..... I have receding gum lines which means I have root exposure. things have been going super fine since my previous appointments with the crown on one tooth and the filling and cap on the other. The problem started about 4 days after I had my teeth cleaned. My old dentist put a "coating" on my roots and told me to use sensydine toothpaste (which I have faithfully). Well, back on the 16th of this month when I had my teeth cleaned, they also irrigated my gums. All that protected coating was removed. I was just using the little tubes of sample crest toothpaste they gave me. That's when the pain started. I went in the other day and he xrayed my tooth and said everything was okay with it. He then said that according to my symptoms, it was because I wasn't using the sensydine toothpaste. He told me to get back to using it and deal with the fact that I'm "married" to it. He then said that if in about 2 weeks time, the pain doesn't go away, he'll have no choice but to do a root canal. I have fabulous news. It's been 4 days of back to using the sensydine toothpaste and the pain has stopped. I find that simply amazing!! Hopefully now, I won't have to go back again until September 29th when I'm scheduled for another cleaning.

I receive letters from my son very often. I received one today where he tells me all about his training exercises. they are now shooting the M16's and an MK-19 which is a grenade launcher. He says that it empties out grenades as fast as an M16 can empty a 30 round magazine!! He was really excited to train on the .50 caliber machine gun. You know how it is with boys and their toys I guess. I just love reading his enthusiasm in each letter. I'm glad he's found something he enjoys and is doing pretty good at. They are doing "live fire" training this week and that has me concerned. I've heard bad stories before of these young recruits not doing everything they are taught and getting severely wounded or die. I can only trust that things will go okay.

bob and I may be moving at the end of July. We just looked at a basement apartment that is so adorable and has more usable space than the one we currently rent. It's also $400 a month cheaper. It's practically a no brainer. It's back in the town that Bob lived in when I met him. (that's just across town from here). All our friends live over there too. It's even closer to my job by about 5 minutes. With gas prices you almost have to take that! It has a stackable washer/dryer and a dishwasher! I'm about 99.9% sure we'll take it. That means that by the 1st of August, we could be out of here. So much for my painting this living room the way I wanted it. Oh well, perhaps the next landlord will allow me to paint too.

I should be getting the Internet at my desk at work this week or next. Which means on my lunch breaks I can post if I feel like it and check my email. They are pretty cool about that. Well see though how things unfold this week. It's going to be a short one at work since we are closed on Wednesday for the 4th of July.

Take care all , and I'll try to post more often again.

back to the dentist I go..........

Pain...excruciating pain!!! I'm thinking the lady that cleaned my teeth last week may have removed a piece of filling...if that's not it, then he'll have to do the root canal he was trying to avoid with the filling and cap. Either way...I'm hurting really bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did manage to finish painting the living room over the weekend. I tried to post photos Sunday night but blogger was not co-operating at all. I'll try again now with a few before and after photos.

Nationals vs Indians

Today Bob and I are going to the Washington Nationals baseball game to watch the 3rd game against the Cleveland Indians. We watched the first game on TV and I wasn't happy to see the Indians loose 4 - 1. They came back in what seemed to be a great game last night to beat the Nationals 4 - 3. We were at our friends house last night until midnight so we missed that match up. I'm looking forward to today's game. The Cleveland Indians have been my team of choice for many years. Now that I'm here in Maryland, I've been rooting for the Nationals on every game they play. However, today I'm sticking with my favorite team and hope they can pull off another win against the Nationals.

On another note, I have decided to paint my living room. When I decided to paint it, I had forgotten that it was today we were going to the ballgame. I might not get the room finished today like I had planned. It's a small room and I have 3/4 of it completed already. The smell of paint has given me a horrible headache this morning. It will be nice to get out of here today so I don't smell it. At first, it wasn't bad at all, but now it's all I smell and with this place being so tiny, you can't escape it. I'll post photos when I'm all done.

***UPDATE***

Oh well...the Nationals won 3 - 1, but it was a fun day. I'll have photos one of these days. I used my 35mm camera so I have to find the time to go and get the film developed.

What Planet are you from?

You Are From Saturn

You're steady, organizes, and determined to achieve your dreams.
You tend to play it conservative, going by the rules (at least the practical ones).
You'll likely reach the top. And when you do, you'll be honorable and responsible.
Focus on happiness. Don't let your goals distract you from fun!
Don't be too set in your ways, and you'll be more of a success than you ever dreamed of.

Hmmm...what's new?

1.) Heard from my son...he's doing pretty well for the most part. He has survived the "gas chamber" and the "tower" training. They have been doing "full gear" training in all kinds of weather (hot, rainy etc.). He himself is doing a pretty good job of things. He says the platoon as a whole is another story. He says he happens to be in a group that can't seem to function well as a team. (that doesn't sit well in the drill sergeants eyes). My Son has flat feet and I know that in many years past, they wouldn't accept you if you were like that. Anyhow, he says his combat boots have torn up his left foot. He says he has a quarter size spot on the bottom of his foot where the skin has just been worn away. He refuses to go to sick call because they "chart" you, then you can't participate in all events. He needs to participate in all events in order to graduate on time (or at all). He told his drill sergeant that he'd walk his foot off before going to sick call. All in all, he loves it and is doing a fine job.

2.) I got an estimate to get my bumper fixed. It's only going to be $430. Now if I can get this "good Samaritan" to come pick up the estimate, I'll feel better. I'll have to break down and call him again if I don't see him before 3pm tomorrow at work.

3.)Thursday's around here in our neighborhood is recycle day. For some reason last week and today, they never came to pick up our bins. Naturally today we had to put out an extra bin since our regular bin was over flowing from not being picked up last week. Guess I'll have to get on our cities website and see if it says anything about them being on strike or not. I know it's not just our bins, because all through town there are recycle bins sitting along the curbs and all are full to maximum capacity. Hmmmm...weird.

4.) On June 4th I needed to cancel my dentist appointment to get my teeth cleaned since I picked up more hours at work. Well, this morning I rescheduled that appointment and low and behold, it's for Saturday morning at 7am!!! I'm actually looking forward to it. Hopefully now I'll have better breath and won't be so self conscious about it. The lady that scheduled my appointment was actually shocked that I chose the 7am appointment. I'd rather just get it the heck out of the way and get on with the rest of my day. Tomorrow is looking like a pretty busy day for both Bob and I.

5.) Part of our busy day Saturday (tomorrow) is that we are going to a grand opening of some rowhomes that are being built right up the road from us. Our friends are coming too. None of us are looking to buy one, just out of mere curiosity mostly. Here is a link to check out if you are curious too. Once you get to the website, click on "Arts District Hyattsville". It's very informational stuff. You can see on the map (if you click on directions), just how close to the DC border we are.

So, I guess that's about it for all that's new around here lately. Hope things are good with everyone.

Last Thursday at work someone backed into my little car(while I was parked) and knocked off my license plate holder and cracked my bumper. I wasn't too happy about it, but there was a note on my windshield from the guy that caused the damage. He appologized and left me all his information such as name, address, driver license # and what type of vehicle he drives and his plate # and cell phone #. I called him and he really was sorry he backed into my car. He's willing to pay for the damages and wants an estimate. I have an appointment this morning with my mechanic to have some work done on it and he has a "body shop" guy that does all his work for his customers coming by to give me an estimate. To look at it, you really can't notice it all that much, except I no longer have a front license plate on my bumper. It's now stuck in my window on the front dash. I hate that because it just looks tacky. Here's some photos I took.

Photo Scavenger Hunt

I'll try to re-post this since Blogger decided not to post it this morning.

Today's theme is shoes. I'm showing these one because they are the most comfortable pair of flats I've ever worn! I found them at Famous Footwear. Dr. Scholls makes them.

Our flight is booked.

Tonight Bob & I checked out our options for a flight, hotel room and a rental car and made a decision on a package. I think we did pretty good by getting all three for $864 (especially since we leave in about 42 days). We'll be leaving on July 17th and returning on July 20th. I have never been to the Atlanta, Georgia airport and that is where we have a flight change. I was hoping it would be a non-stop flight to Columbus, Georgia, but it's not. We'll arrive on the 17th at 1:09pm and by the time we pick up the rental from the airport and get checked into the hotel, we'll have plenty of time to "sight-see" in Columbus, Georgia. Our hotel is in Ft. Benning, Georgia but I'm not sure just how close that is to the base where David is.

I'm looking forward to this trip for more than one reason. The main reason for this trip is to be there and see my Son Graduate from Army basic training. The really cool thing about this trip is, that this will be the 1st time in the 3 years that Bob and I have been together, that we get to fly together. It's always been that either I was flying to see him or he was flying to see me. We're both looking forward to being on the plain together without having to say goodbye to the other one at the airport gate. Now we'll see if we can pack light enough for the short trip and only use one suitcase. Any bets on whether we can pull that off?

I'm really looking forward to this trip for another reason. It's been awhile since Bob and I have been able to "get away" together. True we'll have my son with us for 2 evenings until 8pm, but it's just in the getting away from home sometimes that we need. I know I do anyway. I enjoy the change in scenery.

So that's my good news for now.

2. List your top five places to eat at your location.

Famous Daves..........We actually stumbled across this most awesome BBQ restaurant. We saw their commercial and I instantly was craving ribs!! We were not dissappointed in any way. If you happen to have a Famous Daves near you....get there today and eat!! You'll love it!!

Franklins....This is a well known brewery and restaurant in this area. They have been around for a very long time. People around here use it as a "map" locator. If some one doesn't understand where I'm telling them I'm talking about, all I have to say is "near Franklins" and it's like some huge light bulb just appeared in their brains. They say"oh yeah...I know where that is!" Franklins has a variety store also that you can find some unique gifts in. I say it's like a dollar store with a Spencer Gifts twist.

Ledo Restaurant....Bob and I found this very nice restaurant one day while reading the small local newspaper called the Hyattsville Gazette. there was an article about Oprah's friend Gayle that raved about it as one of Marylands best places to eat. She used to eat there when she was attending Maryland University. We googled the restaurant and discovered how close to use it was and had to try them out. We were not displeased at all. they have a huge killer chef salad that I myself am hooked on. Their burgers are awesome and the pizza, well you'll have to trust me on this one...the pizza is the best ever!!

Potbelly ...Driving throuhg College Park,Md one day, we discovered this great sandwhich restaurant. It has a college town atmosphere while dining since it's right near the university, but it's not bad at all. The subs are really delicious.

3 Brother's Italian Restaurant...Bob turned me on to 3 brothers. They have great tortellini and pizza and spaghetti..and oh...sheesh, If I don't stop I'll get hungry and I just ate. The best thing is you can purchase the meatballs that they make and the sauce they use. We get them now and then and make our own meatball subs at home on hoagie buns. I better stop before I start to drool.

3. Tag five other people (preferably from other locations) and let them know they’ve been tagged.

I tag Barman, Nelly, Kim, Denny and Keasty

what a week.....

It sure seems as though I've had a busy week this week. I know Monday was Memorial Day so it was a short week, but I was pretty busy. I've been doing really good at work. Tuesday I worked 8 to 5 then had Wednesday off (from my job). Wednesday I went to the job site Bob's been working at and installed some insulation. That alone was hot, itchy work. I also taped some seems in the drywall he hung so he could get them "mudded". It was back to work for me on Thursday from 8 to 5 and the same for today. I really enjoy this new job. Working with the invoices from the contractors and collecting payment for them is enjoyable to me. I love using the computer cash registers. There is a lot of different input for each different type of invoice. There are different codes for everything including the various types of payment collected. I've always wanted to do this type of work and now I am. I'm very happy about it. I actually look forward to going in. I have the this weekend off. i get to work Monday through Friday next week. After my breaks are out, I'll have about 39.5 hours. My paycheck will be sweet that's for sure. The only thing I know for sure that I'm doing tomorrow (Saturday), is helping Bob install the new windows that came in for the sun porch remodel he's been working on. Sunday is usually our lazy around and do nothing day.

Hope you all have an enjoyable weekend.
